Toyota adds more than 350,000 to recall over air bag dangers

Posted under Product Liability

Earlier this week, automaker Toyota announced that it would be adding 356,000 vehicles to its existing recall of automobiles equipped with dangerous Takata air bag inflators. Of the more than 350,000 vehicles included in this newest recall, nearly 2 million are registered in the United States.

To date, Toyota has recalled more than 3 million vehicles in the U.S. and 15 million vehicles worldwide over concerns posed by the defective Takata-made airbags. In affected vehicles, these air bags can inflate with too much force, sending metal shards throughout a vehicle and putting drivers and passengers at risk.

Globally, concerns connected to this recall have resulted in the recall of 29 million Takata air bag inflators in more than 19 million automobiles. Additionally, auto safety experts in the United States are currently debating whether or not to add an additional 70-90 million vehicles to the existing recall.

Vehicles included in this specific Toyota recall include 2008 model year Corollas and 2008-2010 Lexus SC430s.
