Multi-national furniture retailer IKEA is recalling about 75,000 removable children safety gates after being notified of three injuries, an article of ABC News stated on May 12.
According to IKEA, the affected safety gates, many of which are in the U.S., may not properly secure in their position, putting children at risk of falling. In the 18 reported incidents of failing safety gates, IKEA learned that three of those resulted in injuries after children fell down the stairs. Children are also at risk of tripping in the presence of the recalled safety gates due to a metal rod at the lower portion of the gates. People who might have the faulty safety gates are instructed to return the item from the point of purchase to get their money back. The potentially hazardous gates were also distributed in Canada.
