New Yorker blames iPhone for his burn injury

Posted under Product Liability

A Lindenhurst man is claiming that an iPhone 5C ruptured inside his pocket and caused a serious burn injury, CNN reported on March 5.

According to engineer Erik Johnson, the incident happened on February 14 when he bent over to pick up his car keys. Johnson suddenly felt intense pain after hearing a popping sound followed by a sizzling, and his pants started to burn. Johnson’s brother took him to a hospital in Staten Island where he was admitted for 10 days. Johnson’s legal counsel said the ruptured iPhone was only purchased last year and no modifications were made, nor was a third party charger used by the client. Johnson is currently recovering at his home, and a nurse changes his bandage every day.
