For the first time the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is proposing to raise the standard of child car seats safety.
The NHTSA proposed that T-bone crashes be simulated to determine how well car seats protect children from side-impact collisions. In the tests sleds and dummies will be used and the rate of speed will average around 30mph.
Former NHTSA administrator, Joan Claybrook expressed optimism at the upgrading of car seat safety. The final proposals based on the crash test results will be announced on Wednesday, January 29 by acting NHTSA administrator, David Friedman.
