Honda announced Friday that itintends to issue a fourth recall to repair airbag defects in its 2001 to 2003Acura vehicles.
According to a press release,vehicles that were previously recalled will be inspected to determine whether theoriginal driver’s airbag module was replaced with a defective service part.The automaker found that the driver’s side airbag in certain vehicles coulddeploy with excessive pressure and potentially cause injuries or fatalities.
Honda has recalled almost 1.7million vehicles since 2008 over the airbag defect. The 2001 and 2002 modelyear Accords and Civics, 2002 Odysseys, 2003 CR-V SUVs were also recalledbecause the company cannot pinpoint which vehicles received defectivereplacement parts. The recall also affects 2002 and 2003 model year Acura 3.2TLs.
Honda spokesman Chris Martin saidthe company is “aware of a small number of injuries and two fatalities relatedto the airbags.”
