Pharmacy errors account for a great deal of personal injury lawsuits, however, this may not be the case in the future. PeaceHealth has spent around $1.7 million on a high-tech pharmacy robot created to cut down on pharmacy errors. The robot automates a portion of the prescribing process for a new PeaceHealth hospital in an attempt to make prescribing more accurate.
Greg Ripley, pharmacy operations manger at PeaceHealth’s Sacred Heart Medical Center, noted that the less contact that humans have with the drugs, the better. When human contact is involved, so is human error. He claims that the robot is 99.99 percent accurate. If an error is detected in the prescription, the machine will reject it.
While this technology sounds as if it will help to decrease pharmacy errors in the future, for now – many people are suffering from the dangerous effects of being given an incorrect prescription.
