Sports Injury Prevention

High school sports promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle, and the many benefits of participation include improved self-esteem, weight management, endurance, and increased strength and flexibility. Although many injuries can occur during play time, it is important that coaches and supervisors exercise caution to make sure your child does not get injured from preventable injuries resulting from overuse or heat exhaustion during practice sessions.

Sports Injury Prevention

To reduce the risk of injuries while playing sports:

  • Warm up before playing with recommended exercises.
  • Drink plenty of water and fluids throughout the game or practice session to prevent dehydration and heat exhaustion
  • Wear proper safety gear for your sport, and make sure that the gear fits well and is fastened properly.
  • Communicate with other teammates or partners, and make sure that you know all of the rules of the game to prevent injuries to yourself and others on the field or court.
  • If you are already injured, do not continue to play. Give your body time to heal to prevent further injury and the possibility of permanent disability.
