Family of Immigration Detainee Sues For Wrongful Death

LANCASTER, Cali - Several government agencies are facing a wrongful-death suit from the family of a man who died from an accidental electrocution while in custody at a Lancaster immigrant detention center. The 36-year-old man died died when he accidentally jackhammered into an underground power line while on a work detail, according to the family's attorney.  A resident of Pomona, he has been held at the Mira Loma Detention Center for 10 months when the accident took place. The victim was a construction worker with a wife and two sons at the time of the incident in December 2007.  After jackhammering into the underground high-voltage line, the man was electrocuted as flames exploded around him, according to the suit. Two other injured detainees were also names as plaintiffs.
