A nursing home resident in De Pere, Wisconsin was allegedly sexually assaulted by one of her caregivers on the night of September 15, according to reports.
Criminal charges were filed against 33-year-old Theodore William Schartner after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 76-year-old female resident suffering from dementia. The patient, whose name was not revealed, reportedly notified a nursing home staff the morning after the incident of Schartner’s inappropriate behavior.
Officials of the Rennes Health & Rehab Center responded to the woman’s complaint and coperated with police by placing Shartner on suspension. The initial bond set against Schartner was $50,000; however, his attorney argued that the bond should be lowed as her client had no criminal history. The prosecutor countered that the nature of Schartner’s crime was a heinous violation of trust and professionalism, and asked the judge to keep the bail that was originally set.
