Driver involved in bike rider’s death surrendered

A driver who was suspected of involvement in a recent Town of Leon accident that killed a bicycle rider turned himself in, the Associated Press reported on February 15.

Information coming from the Waushara County officials said a male driver, whose name was withheld, surrendered himself to authorities, claiming involvement in the fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred on February 14. Bicycle rider identified as James Shafer, 56, was fatally struck before 3:00 a.m. on County Road EE. The driver is currently in custody while waiting for charges. According to police, Shafer, who was killed at the accident scene, had been equipped with visibility gears when he was struck.
