The Walmart trailer truck operator responsible in the recent New Jersey crash that killed one person and severely injured others, including comedian Tracy Morgan, had not slept for 24 hours before the accident, CNN stated on June 9.
According to the criminal complaint, 35-year-old Kevin Roper was awake for more than a day when he struck the limousine bus that contained comedian Tracy Morgan and his companions. Comedian Jimmy McNair, whose stage name was Jimmy Mack, died in the accident. Charges of assault and homicide using a vehicle were filed against Roper. Walmart spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan stated that the company believes Roper was abiding by work hour regulations, but they will continue to investigate the issue. Morgan and three of his companions are currently in critical condition due to serious injuries they sustained from the crash.
