FDA Law Enforcement

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) is under the authority of the Department of Health and Human Services in the federal government. They are responsible for, among other things, the safety of food, medications, blood, medical technology, pet products, and cosmetics.

Many personal injury cases come out of the negligence of the FDA or a break down in procedure. Sometimes drug, medications, and food that are passed by the FDA are not actually safe and make many people safe. And because the FDA is supposed to police the entire nation for unsafe products, when they fail, it affects a large number of people.

In more common cases, it is not that the product is unsafe, but has become contaminated by a foreign object, animal byproduct, or bacterial or viral contagion. Sometimes this goes unnoticed by the public and no one is hurt, however, these types of situations can get out of hand quickly of they deal with a dangerous contaminant.

To help prevent against a breakdown in the hierarchy, the FDA has its own special law enforcement to police itself. They can often uncover overcharging, illegal schemes or promotions, counterfeits, and contamination.

If you believe you have been a victim of a lapse in the FDA’s procedures, you should contact the FDA immediately.
